How an insurance roof claim works

1. Make the roof safe. If water is coming in, call us. We can tarp or make safe to stop further damage, and your insurer will usually expect this.
2. Lodge your claim. Contact your insurer as soon as you can and get your claim number.
3. Free roof inspection. We get on the roof, check every sheet, tile, ridge, flashing and gutter, and photograph all the storm damage.
4. Damage report and quote. You get a written report and an itemised quote to send to your insurer.
5. Assessor visit. We meet the insurance assessor on site to walk them through the damage and answer their questions.
6. Repair or re-roof. Once the claim is approved, we either repair the damaged areas or strip and replace the whole roof in Colorbond.
7. Handover. Completion photos, warranty paperwork and anything your insurer needs to close the claim.

Repair or full replacement?

Insurers usually approve a full roof replacement when damage is spread across the roof, when matching replacement sheets or tiles is no longer possible, or when patching would leave the roof weaker than before. Where damage is limited to one area, a repair is more likely. Your policy and the assessor decide what’s covered. Our job is to make sure every bit of damage is properly documented.

Tile roof damaged by hail?

Hail often cracks concrete and terracotta tiles. When an insurer approves a full replacement, many homeowners take the chance to switch to Colorbond. It’s lighter, handles hail better and needs far less maintenance. Ask your insurer how an upgrade affects your claim, as you may need to cover any difference in cost.
